Over deliver
I’ve had to make pre-work stops at our local Peavy Mart on two separate occasions recently. Although the sign proclaims ‘8:00am open’ in both cases the doors did not open until four or five minutes past the hour.
On my last visit I noticed one other person in the parking lot drive away in frustration, without ever entering the store.
The lesson: Hold to your word, when you say 8, mean 8, not 8:05.
‘Under promise, over deliver’. This means open the doors at 7:58 (especially when you have multiple employees already active inside). It will build goodwill.
People notice the little things, like the value of your word, and going the extra mile,
and people rarely forget the bad… even if it is only four minutes.
Now that’s a peak ethos.
