New Gear

Consumerism is not the means to happiness.

Anytime I find myself lusting after a new vehicle, toy, or gimmick I recognize this clear sign that I’m trying to distract myself from a challenge.

My best friend recently gifted me some 'badass' new workout gear.

I was instantly excited to pump some iron and try it out.

It is difficult to reconcile the grey area between excitement over new ‘stuff’ versus the fruitless search for joy through consumerism.

One feels so good, and one sounds so bad.

For now I’m settling on awareness, and reflection…

But I'm not sure I’ll ever outgrow the excitement of new gear.

  • Now that’s a peak ethos.
