Lessons from dodgeball
At lunch this week I was part of a team of teachers that won the intramural dodgeball tournament.
The final match was against a group of grade 8 boys and I’m slightly embarrassed to admit that despite the age and size difference I still gave 110% effort during the match.
While pondering why it was so much fun to win this event, I realized that within each one of us there is a thirst for competition and fun that often goes unquenched.
Very few of us have an opportunity to meet in a gymnasium of screaming fans, trash talk opponents with fun banter, then run around wildly.
The excitement of moving, dodging, and competition is something we all need more of.
Now that’s a peak ethos.
