Childish Fun

Emma our ‘elf on the shelf’ has been back for the past 2 weeks and mornings have gotten a little more jest. Watching the girls head out to find her latest hiding spot, or to assess the mayhem that she has created, is a lesson in joy.

When talking to a friend about how many years we think Emma will return, I made the observation that scavenger hunts truly never lose their excitement, and I don’t want to imagine a world where our girls are ever too old to enjoy this game.

The serious ‘grown-up’ mindset that creeps into adulthood, accompanying the responsibilities of age, is the enemy of fun. I intend to spend my next 44 years laughing more, and embracing a childlike enthusiasm for the world around me.

This will always include believing in the magic of Christmas.

  • Now that’s a peak ethos.
